Bedroom Inspiration

I'm stuck in the living room, waiting for art, so I've got my mind focused on something else: the bedroom. Once a cocoon of warmth and refuge, it's feeling more and more cave-like everyday - like the chamber walls are closing in on me, and I'm swimming in a deep water in the dead of night. It's dark, it's dark, it's dark.

So I've tooled around looking for inspiration:

Ah, yes - the sandy beaches of the Caribbean. The azure blue waters crashing against that pale ivory sand. The wind swishing the kelly green leaves of the palm trees against the robins egg blue sky. Heaven, really. I'd love to feel like I'm there.

This bed in a showroom is so beautiful. It's light colors reflecting the light shone from the window, yet it's overall look isn't overly feminine and formal. I'd like to sleep here.

And yet, the brown of the river rock, clashed against the grey stone of the large boulders, the calm navy waters washing lightly against the rocks. The calm that is the river. I'd like to feel like I'm there, too!

This beautiful bench, it's aged lines and color still graceful though time-worn. The leaves and ground cover peaking near it, as to pay it homage for it's long and beautiful journey in this natural landscape. The trees cradling it as if to say, thank you for being here. I'd like to feel like I'm there, too!

The color of the linen, the texture of the burlap, the calmness of this moment - I'd like to be there, too.
So how can I fit inspiration from so many different places into one room, 12x15, without it looking a hot mess? Stick around to find out!

  2. Every picture is superb! Really like the bench and footstool. The bench appears to be concrete?

I am a gardner and in these economic times, we are all looking for ways to save money. So I have to point out that chartreuse sedium stonecrop plant in front of the bench as it has become a very popular plant the last few years. I have been growing it for years and a chocolate colored one named Voodoo Stonecrop. Buy just one of these and plant it. Later in the season and next year, you will have plenty to tuck into other places in the yard, even windowboxes and pots as it drapes very nicely over the sides. It's a perennial, not invasive and mine grows in both sun and shade.

  14. I can't wait to see how you pull it all together. I'll take a well earned flop down in that snuggly chair too. You can bring it to my place and I will give you a go of my rocking chair! :)

  15. You are fantastic at explaining how/where you find inspiration and how you translate that to design.

Even though my creative outlet is painting, I find much inspiration here - thank you.

With your concise yet poetic way of articulating things I could definitely see a book in your future.

(My dream bedroom, btw, is 'Colonial Caribbean - or that's how I think of it - simple, lots of white a little blue & green and lots of airiness. No clutter.)

  16. Artie, I love this inspiration post. That bed is stunning. It's handsome and masculine, and I like the texture of the burlap footstool. I also like burlap as a bedskirt. You can buy burlap online that has been deodorized (I found a website a while back), and it comes in a variety of colors... though I like it in its natural color best.

Blue is very restful in a bedroom. I keep hearing a lot of people say they love Palladian Blue from Benjamin Moore. I've read that over and over online and in magazines. Might be worth a look if you're leaning toward blue.

Love the track you're on with this.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  17. The pictures are beautiful & I'm eagerly awaiting your reveal!

I get bored with the same bedding, so I have different quilts, comforters & sheet sets. Sometimes there's a lot of red or coral & other times there's blue & browns. Storage is a pain, but it's nice to be able to change things out. ☺ Diane

  18. I'm dying over that chair.

The sophisticated tailored lines juxtaposed with the shabby fringy-ness is just killing me.

    Love.

  26. What a gorgeous blog! I have spent the past hour and 10 minutes reading through it! I'm not kidding, I just looked at the clock and thought, wow - have I really been sitting here that long?? I've been absorbed - it's just wonderful and I'm loving all of these fabulous photos and room inspiration. I've got an ottoman that needs covering and the one you've got pictured that is covered in a burlap fabric with the creamy linen chair is amazing. I'm going to try it!

I hope you don't mind, but I'd love to add your blog to my favorites list!

Thank you so much for your visit to my blog - I'm so glad you came by and please visit again anytime!!

    Hugs,
    Kathleen
