Bottle Mania

Well, here it is - the grand unveiling - my pretties from the all-day shopping extravaganza! Vintage Pharmacy Apothecary Jars!

These little dudes, and I do mean little, only about an inch tall, and nearly the circumference of a penny, make the most beautiful vases don't they?

Or simply in a jar (or in this case larger glass apothecary) as vase filler. Their muddy amber color is such a lovely compliment to almost any color.

And as you can see, I liked them so much, I bought over 100 of them. I couldn't resist. After all, with 1,000,001 uses, and such interesting charm - how could I not?

Perhaps Jack would like some of these beans?

Or you could leave a note for your beloved?

Single servings of spice at a dinner party; party favors filled with annual seeds at a garden themed picnic; clue vessels for a fun scavenger hunt; great candle holders for thin menora candles; clipped onto Christmas lights in next years Christmas tree for a touch of color and whimsy; filled with the tiny beads and string to make a friendship bracelet; or simply scattered upon old leather books for interesting texture and sparkle on a side table or mantle - the usefulness of these mini-jars are only limited by your imagination.

So, don't keep it bottled up - what would you do with them? I'm dying to know!

  1. I would put them in a line down a long dinner table with flowers in them!!!

  2. Wow! I love these little bottles! I really like them in the jar to display everyday. I like the idea of using them various ways when entertaining, I will have to ponder some other uses for these!

  3. I would have then en-masse down a table in a big drift...with peony buds and mercury glass tea lights scattered through. What a wonderful find. Love the big jar too.

  4. Those are wonderful. You have such a great eye for the unique and unexpected! Their uses do seem limitless. I love them with the white flowers.

  5. Arti, Great finds...I would make something that would hang. Attach wire around the neck of the bottles and maybe hang them from the ceiling on a tree branch. You could put flowers, ferns, succulents etc in the bottle. You can also buy faux pearl succulents, it's long and would drape down. I think it would look rather stunning with the sun shining through the glass. It could really become an art piece. Kathleen

  6. hmmm...

scattered all over a table holding white roses and pink peonies.

on a hallway entry table filled with acorns and whatnot, surrounded by hedge apples.

filled with homemade almond-nutmeg scented candle wax.

with hand-printed labels, as placeholders at the table.

  7. I love Kathleen's idea of them hanging from a tree branch with little candles in them!
Since we gabbed about what to do with them earlier, I don't have any new ideas ... yet!
They were a great buy, and your imagination and eye for interesting things never cease to amaze me. Truly.

  10. Hmmm. I would send them...all 100 of them to my friend in Florida...to go with her palm tree napkin rings.

Yes. I am SURE that is what I would do, now.

  11. What would I do with them? I wouldn't have bought them in the first place! I never would have thought of the neat things to do with them that you have. In fact, I really love the way they look in that big lidded jar. But over 100 of them? Did Scott think you had lost your mind?

  13. Good morning Artie! Those bottles are so cute! I am looking for 60 small jars to put some honey in them for wedding favors. I want something antiquey looking, about 2inches in height. Please let me know if you see anything lke that. Are your bottles little vials?...Christine

  14. Good Morning Artie,

I have corks from wine bottles saved if you need them for stoppers, for one of your projects, for those little bottles. Funny the things we save over the years. I love them displayed in the apothecary jar. Interesting find.

  15. These are so cute.

I love the idea of leaving notes in them!

  16. I would take one .. attach some type of cording, find a precious little cork, fill the little bottle with my favorite perfume (or scotch) and wear it around my neck!

  17. How adorable are those? I love them as vases. The white flower looking ground cover on my post between the purple ornamental kale? That is Candytuft. If that's not the flower you are asking about come back and holler at me again.

  20. I love old bottles, and these are just great.
I like your idea of putting notes in them. Wouldn't they be great with a note inside tied to a gift?
Or how about lined up on a window sill glowing from the sunlight?
    So pretty.

  21. I love your decorating style! And I also love little glass jars or apothecary jars. The note in the jar is a great idea! Love it! I can't say this is an original idea, but I saw on a blog where someone put sand (pebbles, dirt,...) in jars from everywhere she had travelled. You could put any sort of "memento" in a jar to remind you of a special place.

  22. Artie, those are the cutest bottles I've ever seen in my entire life...I LOVE leaving little notes in them and I LOVE them gathered together and put into the larger vase...You are so good at what you do. Lots of talent...the next Design Star, I just know it !!

  29. Well lets see, you covered alot of what I would do with them, LOL but how about in an office, for some paper clips or tacks, lined up on a little shelf, they are so cute, but I love them as a vase and your note for someone to meet you under the tree, very creative!! Thanks so much for your visit and nice comments on my hutch!! Come back soon (;

  30. Artie, I'm thinking for a dinner party where each guest has their own private vase. Then, like Joni mentioned, have them massed down the center of your table. Love these SO much.

I have some cobalt ones that I made into a bottle tree. That's another option. If you don't know what that is, I refer you to Eudora Welty's book PHOTOGRAPHS. They were often seen in the Deep South. Now folk and outsider artists have their own renditions of them. FUN!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  37. Hi Artieness! Oh, what a great find. I love those little jars and how beautiful the mass of them look with the blooms in them. I love the other suggestions about putting them on your table - you could also let them march across your mantle with these flowers in them - how pretty would that be? Now, if I had them - I would stick one on each of my fingers and go around showing folks! lol
Thanks for the visit and I'm so excited you've begun to collect Blue Willow! I just love those dishes!! Can't wait to see yours.

  47. How totally cool those are. And I just know you're going to be using them some fantastic way...can't wait to see where they show up!

    ReplyDelete
  48. You have the BEST ideas, Artie. Maybe you could make a bottle tree with them. You could nail those long skinny nails into a tall tree stem with multiple branches (maybe into the branches too) and then wind string lights around alllll the nails. Hopefully the cord would be close to the color of the tree...or maybe you would have to spray it all with paint to hide the cord. But just imagine all those little bottles with a light down inside. Might not work...but it might. :-) Susan

  49. Like you , I'd most likely use them for flower, or mayber feathers. The design options are endless!! And, they are the most wonderful colour. I have a collection unusual antique shot glasses that I use for vases and I love them.

What I want to know...where on earth did you find such gorgeous white peonies??

  51. Hi Everybody,

I've been trying to figure out a place to begin the Acai Berry free trial & was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on whether or not it works to lose weight? So far this is the 1 article I've been able to check out that seemed realistic for the goals I have. Opinions?
