Tablescape Thursday: Red White Blue Patio

For Susan's Tablescape Thursday I decided to post the photos from the photographer of the Buffalo News article that came out last Friday. The patio was set for dinner for 4 with our old "patio" set and burlap covered table. (In the picture above: LEFT TO RIGHT; Chris, Allison, Artie, Scott).

Blue spode china with textured leather placemats, bamboo flatware (I'm telling you this is a favorite of mine this year!!!!) and crystal stemware made for a pretty nice little spot for Scott's tequilla lime turkey tenderloin over spanish rice, black beans, and blue corn tortilla chips. The editor had asked me to put together something that would fit in with the 4th of July coverage were were going to have. So, I paired the red napkin and burlap strapping material over the charger for that red/white/blue patriotic look.
A classic twist, but still red, white and blue. Thanks for visiting, make sure to visit the other tablescapes this week, and if you're able, could someone loan me a few hours? There simply aren't enough in my day! (I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this problem!)

Garden Walk is steadily approaching, and as the hours race forward to Saturday morning, the projects and tasks that have to be completed in a mere 47 hours are mounting. This morning, my "Garden King" was up at the crack of dawn, planting the 6 arborvitae behind the concrete retaining wall at the edge of the patio, last night we spent hours putting together our new Smith & Hawkens Ash dining room furniture for the patio, and tonight (alone) I'll have to finish up assembly of the set.

Then ... planting, moving, planting, mulching, weeding, mowing, edging and cleaning - then maybe - just maybe, we'll be ready for the walk. Now, if you're reading this, and you're in the area ... please feel free to stop by and take a tour of the gardens! I promise it won't disappoint. For those of you who are not in the area - I'll have a pseudo tour posted for you here on Monday!

Pictures of our yard to come soon! Happy Thursday!

  11. Artie -- I'd be there in a minute if the prairie were closer.

But, of course, a couple of weeks ago we were in the same boat -- so much to do and so little time -- but then it all came together.

I am there in spirit and can't wait for the photos Monday.

Love your tablescape -- but of course, I would -- those dishes . . . they are wonderful and it is a great take on red white and blue without being so predictible!

  14. Artie, I love your table, and the bamboo-handled flatware is neat. I have the lighter (used some of it today in my post), but seeing yours, I would love to have the darker, too.

Is that a piece of the strapping material that goes under chairs that you have under the plate??? That is SO neat. Love how that looks. I saw something done recently with that and loved it. I also like the fact that you have so much texture with these place settings... the woven leather chargers, the strapping material, the bamboo-handled flatware, and the burlap. Very neat. Of course I love blue and white porcelain, too. Your Spode is great! I have Mottahedeh's Canton pattern and really enjoy it. That's what we eat on every day. It makes me SO happy!

Best of luck with your garden tour. I hope you both can take a break afterwards and rest on your laurels!

    Happy Tablescape Thursday...

    XO,

  18. Evening, Artieness! I almost missed your outside table! Oh, it's so lovely! Love that blue transferware and red napkins. Nice touch with the band around the chargers. There's my Ernest Hemingwayish flatware! I think I saw them first on your blog and I was coveting them, Artie, I really was! Found one set - service for four and want more!
    Be a sweetie,

  19. Great use of a small outdoor space! Your tablescape is bold enough to say "4th of July" yet subtle enough to not look cheesy. Very nice! Love that flatware too!

  20. Artie, I would give you all the hours in my day tomorrow if I lived closer. I personally hauled a truckload of mulch, by wheelbarrow and pitchfork last month from my driveway to the backyard. I had to "make a yard" for my son's graduation party. It will all get done. You suddenly find energy that you don't know you had. Pride is a wonderful motivator. Can't wait for Monday's post.

  21. Your table is a very upscale, patriotic, red, white and blue. (is that too many commas?). Did you make a skirt for the table too. Thought I saw a glimpse of one, but maybe just my imagination!

  27. Artie,
I really like the leather chargers and burlap is so popular this year! This would be a great look for a barn dinner party with all my horse friends! Best to you both on the garden walk....it's always worth all the effort! I was sad to read that Smith & Hawkins is going out of business....one of my favorite stores! Don't forget to take a good rest afterward! Luanne
