Day 6/33: Scott's Anniversary Present
Casa de la Vanderdogan is a mess, what with the shift change from dining room to library yesterday. Scott so lovingly looked at the "after" and said, "Change it back!" With a smile, of course. So as I shifted furniture along, I thought - I don't think that I ever showed the antique Carborundum sign that I purchased Scott for our anniversary. I know that I talked about it on the blog, but alas, here it is.
It's on the longest wall of our sunroom, here in this 5' expanse of wall between french doors and a wall of windows, the 4 foot wide advertisement for Carborundum products printed in 1921 is a wash of warm oranges, which were once vibrant reds. We had the sign professionally restored after finding it in an antique store, the things I do for him...
Hope you enjoy!

Half the fun of decorating is moving furniture around I think. D often comes home from work and finds sofas in different positions, the dining room table in different positions, the coffee table in different rooms...I think he thinks I am a nutcase!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend, NM
PS LOVE the picture!
I loves it!!!

This is really beautiful, and I think that its age and patina factor nicely in with all of the other eclectic mix of furnishings you have throughout your wonderfully decorated home, Artie. You do a magical juggle of the natural and unexpected and you make us ooo and awe through it all. Fantastic work with these post of late, and I wish you great success in your "clean up" after the dining room shot yesterday. BEAUTIFUL job, by the way!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sign, painting, poster, sketch ... what is it exactly? Beautiful no matter what. I'm sure Scott loved his gift!
ReplyDeleteI like your and Scott's senses of humor. And I particularly like these words of yours, "a wash of warm oranges, which were once vibrant reds."
ReplyDeleteSo glad I found your blog! I'm salivating over the pages here - just so many beautiful things to take in.
ReplyDeletelovely poster.
ReplyDeleteArtie, I have really enjoyed these posts and look forward to the continuing series. The sign was a perfect gift with Niagara Falls since you live a few blocks away! Enjoy your weekend.
