Update: They're HERE!

I knew that the idea of 700 feathers would conjure up a little excitement ... but I had no idea that it would spark so much curiosity! Since they arrived (with the exception of 50 that were accidentally left out of the order) on Friday, I thought I'd share what we're doing here ... well, a "tease" anyway! :)

That's right. Peacock! Now, if you take the time to google "PEACOCK CHRISTMAS" you'll come up with no more than 8 trees. All of them beautiful, but not necessarily in keeping with the CdlV style. I couldn't understand why there wasn't inspiration to be had in the photo world, until I got the feathers and started to play with the idea.

It can go south quite quickly: from chic and sophisticated to cheap and tacky in a snap! So I've put it together, taken it apart, put it back together, and then taken it back apart - bought $40 worth of Moroccan lanterns ... then put it back together, well, you get the idea. Definitely the most difficult of the "themes" I've ever come up with ... and I've been tempted to toss the idea. But I think that I'm on track now, and I'll make sure to show you soon!

The good part is that in all of the frustration, I took a break to finish the live green arrangement outside. Wanna see?

You tease. I can't wait. I love the peacock feathers, they will be so beautiful and irredescent with the lights. It will be spectacular. I bet Scott is just as excited. I am loving the colors of the balls that you captured with the colors of the feathers. You caught every single color Artie.

Wait till you see my tree. By the time I got through layering it, you would never even know it is black. It is spectacular. I am going to try and get some pics of it tonight and post it. I can't wait for you to see it. Next I am moving to the living room one we talked about with the pheasant feathers. Thank for sharing my friend.

  11. a) I love the idea!

    b) I wish I had your budget! I'm using a color this year that I've never used. Boxes and boxes of all colored things and not one piece with this color. I found some things over the weekend but I wanted a truckload more.

I can't wait to see your finished projects.

  13. Love Love peacock feathers! Can't wait. Once had a friend who had 35 of these delightful birds who roosted in and on her barn. What a sight and so many feathers during molting.
I am trying to enjoy the Thanksgiving season and the demise of fall but you are really pushing me to get my tree up.

  18. Hi Artie,
How are you guys? I hope good and glad you are feeling better! Oh a peacock tree will be great, they are so in this year. I remember in the 60's growing up when that shade of blue was so in in decor.
I am hoping my decorating comes together this year, I am in a slump, not into it so much this year. I have been thinking of an asian themed dining room for this year but not sure that will happen.
Thanks for dropping by my blog!
    Hugs, Linda Q

How divine: Peacock feathers. I, too, have utilized these wispy pieces of pure shimmer (I think I'll write that down and use it again in my blog--you've inspired me!) and I can't wait to see what all you do with them.
    Blessings, Lana
