Skirting Inspiration ...

Now that I moved the secretary into the dining room to act as a bar,  I had a lack of flat surfaces in the foyer ... an important element, given the amount of mail I bring in daily (along with keys, cell phones, wallets, magazines ... you get the picture, right?) So I started looking for inspiration, and voila.

The wonderful thing about a skirted table in the foyer is the sheer versatility of it. In a pinch you could use it as a server, a bar, a desk, (and if you have a blog - they make great blog posts! tehehe) so I figure it was time for Casa dela Vanderdogan to have one too. I've made the table (an archaic blend of 12" pine and 2x2 firring strips) but now it's time to make decisions on fabric. Any ideas?

  1. The table looks great with the orange cloth on it. I also love your zebra carpet on the stairs. So chic!

  3. Love this post Artie. I would love to add a skirted table like this to my house, but can't seem to find a place for it. An entry is perfect.

  4. These are a great idea for people with small spaces too. Any place you get some extra hidden storage is a big bonus. You could hide shoes, hats, gloves, all kinds of crap under your skirt. I think the box pleats are the more handsome option.

You can also do podcasts: The Skirted Square Table.

  5. I have one. It came out of necessity...to cover an ugly table....but now I love it......funny how things happen that way :)

  6. I love the amount of stuff you can hide under there as well! Baskets for shoes etc. Looks very sophisticated.

  10. Oh, I meant to say that vintage mangle cloths would be perfect for a skirt table. They're linen and have a stripe that would be perfect on the bottom edge.

  13. Some how I missed the move of the table...but what ever you do it will look wonderful!

You could hide the dogs under the table too !

Go for the strong edges or it may look messy....we hate messy right?

  16. I like this idea! I have a chest of drawers that I'd like to be able to cover on occassion with just this kind of look. Wisteria has one ready made but it's not wide enough for my need. I think those are very attractive!
