More Gilded Chairs ...

I've been reminded that I am not showing enough of CDLV, and I promise that I have a good reason. I can't share it right now - but I'm sure you're reading between the lines. I've got the house literally turned upside down, making it picture ready and it's a daunting task given my current schedule. Still, I have plans to post almost exclusively about CDLV in the coming months, and I hope that you all find it as inspiring as I hope you will.

I took the time to get one chair gilded on Monday, and would have gotten them all done had I not been met with a rainy day today. I can't tell you how much I love it, and how stunning it will be in the dining room. Thank you Suzanne Rheinstein for the great idea! :)

Since I'm really into the look right now, I figured why not share some of my favorites from the inspiration file ... in hopes that some of you might bite the bullet and grab the spray paint, and glazes, and get started on gilding a few chairs of your own. Enjoy!

Now, one of the reasons that the gilded chairs work as well as they do in my dining room is because we have antique gold finished 1910-1920 deco light fixtures. When I started to work on them I used this photo as my gild inspiration:
So far, I've been able to achieve this perfectly by spraying the existing walnut stained chair with Krylon Metallic Gold spray paint, then quickly painting over the dry spray gold with FolkArt 658 Antique Gold Metallic craft paint, then rubbing down with Martha Stewart Medallion metallic glaze, and finally, a rather messy paper-towel destroying rub down with burnt umber craft paint mixed with a tad bit of water. And voila.

You're expecting a picture of my chair, right? Sorry! I promise they'll be worth the wait! See you soon!

  1. I am not a gilded chairs person, but these definitely look good in this context.

  6. If I hadn't just refinished and reupholstered my accent chairs earlier this year, I'd be seriously tempted to embrace this gorgeous style. Looking forward to seeing your gilded chairs!

Just stopped by to say Hi! Love the pictures and guilded chairs.
Maybe you have inspired me to go look for some new/old chairs to reinvent!
