A Picture is Worth ...

I'm feeling much better, thank you to all of you who read and commented on Wednesday's post! Wasn't that house unbelievable? As I research that living room from video's and show houses it's amazing to me the transformations that have happened to it with just furniture and paint ... look for that later, but for now - I thought I'd give you another little peek into the dining room.

Check out the pillow on the chair, isn't that fun? I was inspired by the many flemish tapestry pillows of high end designer rooms, and thought I'd use some creativity and fabric from Calico Corners to make an inspired pillow of my own. Using velvet, trim, and linen toile, I knocked this baby out in about 20 minutes.

I used the same fabric from the chair cushions on the backside of both pillows (yes, there are 2) and I really love the way they came out! And for just about $10/each, they're far less expensive than these of my inspiration file:
$4400 for the pair on 1stdibs: http://melissalevinson.1stdibs.com/store/furniture_item_detail.php?id=500190
$2500 on 1stdibs: http://dagmar.1stdibs.com/store/furniture_item_detail.php?id=546315

I've been thinking about adding fringed trim to the edges, but I think I like the simplicity of them this way. Hope you find yourself inspired to give that sewing machine a dust off and get to creating! And remember, Calico Corners is having a giveaway ($1000) this December, and you can be entered simply by signing up on facebook. Go here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Calico-Corners-Calico-Home/260960165337?sk=app_143103275748075 and good luck to you!!

Now I'm off to clean up my sewing mess, and take all this fabric to the guest room. Enjoy your weekend, I'll see you Monday!

  2. Your pillows are beautiful!! I sure wish I could sew.

The inspiration pillows are lovely, but I can't imagine spending that much cash on pillows (even if I had $$$ to burn).

  5. Dear Artie, I'm so glad you're feeling better. The pillow you made is beautiful. Could you suggest a book or tutorial that would give instructions on making a toss pillow?
    Best regards,

  7. Hi Anon,
My seagrass rugs are from Anji Mountain. I bought them when Wayfair was still Csnrugs.com. They're great, and you can find a local retailer on their website here: http://www.anjimountainbamboorugco.com/
I have two, one in the living room, and one in the dining room. The dining room is an 8x10, and cost just under $200, the living room is 9x12, and cost about $355.
    Hope that helps.

  11. Hi, Artie
I am pleased you are feeling better. Your pillows are fabulous, and rival the high-priced spread. Good job. I also love your happiness jar on the buffet, by the way.
    Best...Victoria

  12. Those look so fabulous, your rooms are coming along just great! A $2500, though? Is there pure gold sewn into the seams or something? ;)

I love your rug, too, I got one of those Anji Mountain bamboo rugs a while back, and they are just wonderful!
