The Lewiston Tour of Kitchens was this past weekend, and I'm happy to say that it was again a wonderful success for the Lewiston Historical Society and all of the designers and homeowners this year. Though Saturday brought rain and thunderstorms, making my photo ability nearly nil, I did manage to grab a few shots of this Asian inspired bohemian tablescape on the small patio outside of my client's breakfast room.
Since April, I've been working with the homeowner on some renovations in her home, and I was happy to be asked to take part in this event, showing off all our hard work! A lover of Shelties, horses, Asian artifacts, and simple sophistication, Judy is a wonderful friend and client to have. She makes decisions quickly, and trusts my judgement completely. How could it be any better?
Inspired by her simple, Japanese gardens, I wanted this small tablescape to appeal to her love of the Asian decor, and inspire the 1700 people who came on the tour to "Color Outside the Lines" and think outside the box when it comes to setting a table.
This is when being a fabric hoarder pays off! These 3 yard cuttings of discontinued Kravet, Schumacher, and Cowtan Tout fabrics make the perfect bohemian tablecloth. The seating is made up of our collection of floor cushions from Istanbul, topped with linen toss pillows from Ralph Lauren.
The Japanese Sake cup and pitcher sets are new, dishwasher safe, and very heavy. I paired it up with some of my double happiness ginger jars, brass tray, and chopsticks. Simple, sophisticated, colorful and a lot of fun!
The flowers were my idea, but were executed beautifully by Linda of Summertime Blooms. A mound of Chinese Red carnations sit in oasis atop a zinc pedestal tray. I also hung beautiful glass lanterns from the trees with burlap twine, and plopped the left over carnations inside.
So there you have it, I'm waiting on the professional photos of the event from Sunday when the weather was absolutely GORGEOUS; hot, but sunny and clear - not a cloud in the sky!

Love the bohemian approach. I had to laugh...I've reached the age where I could get down to sit at the table, but dining time later, I'm not sure that I could ever get up again. I'd just have to live there forever. Love that you used the carnations...an underrated flower. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
