New Interior Design Books

So, I posted about cheap interior design books and cheap coffee table books in my last post, and I hope you got a chance to peruse them. Today, I wanted to share with you a couple of the newest interior design books that are slated for the shelves this autumn and fall.

Without a doubt, you're familiar with Mark D. Sikes. To the blogging world, he sorta came out of nowhere, and has become somewhat of an icon. His blog catalogs fashion and interiors, and showcases his work in his own LA home, and other design commissions across the country. Most recently, I blogged about his room in the Southern Living Idea House, and learned that the room made the cover of their issue about the house. His home has been featured in Veranda, HouseBeautiful, Lonny, and on countless blogs (including this one) and one home he was commissioned to design was recently featured in Veranda. That home, his own, and others that have been kept very quiet will be featured in his book: "Beautiful: All-American Decorating and Timeless Style".

Available in hardcover on September 20, 2016, the book is now available for pre-order here:

The book has 8 chapters, among them: "Blue and White Forever", "Timeless Neutrals", "Beautiful Brights", "Sun Faded Hues". Nancy Meyers, famed director of movies such as "It's Complicated" and "The Intern" which Mark actually helped with set design for, gives the foreword in the book. No one can be sure what fill the pages of Mark's beautiful new book until we get it in our hands, but I can assume! And what better than a little montage of photos to whet your appetite for the book. I know I can't wait to get my copy!

Perhaps, "Blue and White Forever" would feature the window display he did for Hollyhock during the 2014 Legends event which he called "Orient Express":

Or maybe, it could include shots from the Draper James store he designed for Reese Witherspoon in Nashville!

"Timeless Neutrals" could be a showcase of his own living room, filled with subtle hues of caramel and cream, white and ecru:

In his chapter on "Beautiful Brights" perhaps he featured his own home again, with photos of his family room adjacent to the kitchen:

Or even from his lovely guest room, all decked out in red:

Of course, if he had a chapter on red, it might include this dinign room he did for the Kips Bay Showhouse:

His chapter on "Sun Faded Hues" might include his newly published work in Montecito:

All the photography for the book is credited to Amy Neunsinger, who has been credited with photographing the books for designer Rachel Ashwell, and did the photography for Mark's HouseBeautiful feature in 2014, so I'm sure we will get to appreciate some of the photos from that look in the book as well.

Here she is, via instagram, photographing the hallway that Mark did for the Maison de Luxe showhouse at the Beverly Hills Greystone Mansion. I can't wait to see those pictures in the book, which were also on the cover of Luxe magazine!

Clearly, I'm excited about this one, and you should be, too! Mark has been super secretive about a lot of his design projects, and I think they'll likely be unveiled in the book! As with all interior design books, there will be pictures we have all seen before, BUT the real joy is in the secondary photos of these rooms where we get to peek in at the multi-layered vignettes and read what the designer was thinking, his tips and tricks, and be constantly inspired by the resource of images old and new. Weeks ago, Mark shared sneak peek images of rooms being photographed for the book on his instagram:

Each of these being new rooms we've never seen! So, if you weren't excited already, GET EXCITED, and get moving, because if you don't pre-order now, you'll have to wait for the next round of printing. Here's the link again:

Another one I'm super excited about is Bunny Williams' new book: "A House by the Sea".

The book is available in hardcover on September 13, 2016, and you can pre-order it here:

Bunny Williams is up to 5 books now, but this book is purely cataloging her home in Punta Cana aptly named "La Colina". The house was featured in Bunny's book: "Point of View" available here:

But the difference between a chaper and a whole book is about 250 pages! I can't wait to soak up the beauty of La Colina, and see all the rooms that have never been published. Each of her books have been so inspiring, maybe none greater than "An Affair with a House" which I know has inspired so many people not only in interior design, but garden design as well. "A House by the Sea" catalogs the inside and outside of La Colina, and invites you into the way the house lives for guests and Bunny and her husband John Rosselli. Lastly, "Wanderlust" the first book from designer Michelle Nussbaumer. Michelle is an amazing designer who has a way with color and collections, putting together rooms that feel welcoming and lush without feeling cluttered or lost. The minute I fell in love with her was the very minute I finished reading this quote: "More is more. Less is never more. Less is obviously less. Who want's less?" - Michelle Nussbaumer.

Available in hardcover on September 20, 2016, the book is now available for pre-order here:

Michelle is a fellow Texan, operating in Dallas. Her work has been featured in all the top shelter mags, and local design and lifestyle magazine to Dallas, D Magazine. I love her looks, all of them! They're always bold, and graphic, and infuse fabrics and styles from all around the globe. It's no wonder that the title of her book is "Wanderlust" for that is exactly what her interiors evoke:

Pattern is Michelle's gig. She can bring together the most bold and varied fabric, and have it flawlessly work together like no one else. Here in her bedroom, with her puppies Michelle embraces blue and tribal Uzbekistan fabrics old and new. The tribal fabrics of the Middle East are clearly her favorite, Check out her truck!

I remember when I was first introduced to her work. I still go back to the photos of that room today for inspiration:

Beautiful right? Hand crafted daybed carried by Michelle's store Ceylon et Cie in the master sitting room of the Greystone Mansion during the Veranda sponsored showhouse there in 2009. Hand-painted chinoiserie wallpaper by Paul Montgomery Studio. This room, for me, was and is stunning. And Michelle has done a ton of work inside of Greystone for varied showhouses.

In 2012 she did the grand foyer and card room/sitting room:

Again, always bold, always pattern, always lovely. One of my favorite spaces for the Greystone showhouses was this hallway outside of the master suite:

Hopefully more of these spaces, along with her private home will be photographed for the book, which again, you can pre-order here:

There you have it - my top 3 books dropping to shelves in September 2016! Inspiration at every page turn, they'll definitely be a part of my library. Hope you find them perfect for yours, as well!
