The Guest Room

Well, the day has come ... almost. My out of town guest will be here tomorrow at 2:30 in the afternoon. Before he gets a glimpse at the room he'll call home for the next 5 days, I thought I'd share it with you all:

I used the elusive tapestry as the headboard in this room. A perfect solution for the piece that was absolutely too big for any other room in the house. Some of you may remember that it served as a headboard for the master bedroom, and I think against the gray Valspar wallcolor the tapestry really pops, don't you?

The comforter came from Marshalls as a set: Comforter, Bedskirt, Shams for $59.99. Great deal, too! It's overstuffed, and oversized so it drapes nicely across the deep mattress. The throw I bought on clearance to match the curtains and bring a bit more of that color into the room, and that great ladder leaning against the wall was given to me along with the luggage cart I now use as a coffee table in the living room.

Here you can see the paint finish on the bookcase a little more clearly, and a view of the Danish Modern bench I picked up at a yard sale for $7. The woman who sold it must have been in her mid-40's, and she said that she remembered dancing on it as a child. I love pieces with a past.

And those bookshelves. The television is still in the repair shop, (another blog in and of itself). I sure hope our guest doesn't mind having no television for the first day or so.

And I'll leave you with this angle. Do you see the kilim rug at an angle in the corner of the shot? It's my absolute favorite of our collection, a sort of stonewashed denim blue, with camel and terracotta. It works beautifully in here, don't you think?
