Fabric: Uncoventional Use

I've been working on getting my house back together now that Christmas is over, since it's apparently not in good taste to leave your tree up 'til February. (I think someone needs to re-write that silly rule!) So please forgive these shorter posts.

In an effort to lighten up my house, I've been searching for inspiration and came across a great one I thought I'd share:

This is the perfect way to introduce new color into a room, no matter the time of year or season. Three framed pieces of the same fabric used to make the pillows in the club chairs fill the awkwardly tall space above the fireplace, and add a kick of color that otherwise would be hard to achieve at that height.

This beautiful cinnabar/orange would be great for fall, and perhaps spring could host a lemon yellow or kelly green? The possibilities are endless!

So go look through that closet of scrap fabric you've been wanting to use and color outside the lines a little ... you'll never know until you give it a try!

  1. I've certainly seen this done before, but here it looks more fresh and original. (It's early here and I am drinking coffee-haven't stepped on scale yet)
    But will.

  3. Good Morning Artie,

I've been playing around with different ideas also. I decided I needed a second house for all the ideas I have. ;) A more formal one like Gollum's and another one like in An Affair With A House. Both beautiful, but both so different. Maybe I need to find a new interest, my decorating ideas are getting to expensive. LOL

  4. I still have stray Elves on my dining room table that don't want to get in the boxes in the corner slated for the shed. I'm behind, too!

I love your ispiration and the idea of swaths of colored canvas is deliciously fresh and wonderful.

Can't wait to see what this idea blooms into in the house of Scartie.

  11. The hottest new color is "lemon grass" that Ms. Obama provided yesterday.

Many neighbors and I have natural wreaths made with many types of evergreens and berries. It's become a tradition that in mid January the bows are all removed. The wreaths dry naturally and left up until Mar/Apr. They look absolutely great for the rest of winter in a historic New England fashion with all the snow and cold weather.

  13. Don't feel bad at all, Artie. I paint decorations on the windows for Halloween and Christmas... my windows are still sporting trees and snowmen. I need to scrap them down yet... It is just such a mess.

I have seen people put up panels of toile successfully. The solid color isn't my thing -- but I think it does look nice and adds color. :)

  14. That's a great idea, Artie. I've also considered making color copies of fabrics to display here and there.

  15. Artie,
Your room looks amazing. That beautiful orange looks perfect above the mantle. I have tall ceilings and often think there is wasted space above pictures. I might have to give this a try as my scrap cupboard is bursting lol!
