SATURDAY: Design D'Jour - RL Fall 2010

Yes, Design D'jour is supposed to be about CdlV, but when I noticed today that Ralph Lauren Home had posted the Fall 2010 collection, I just had to post it here. The design team at RL really know how to put it all together, and have been an inspiration to many of the rooms and vignettes around CdlV. This year's Fall Collection is called Heiress, and as you can see just from the gorgeous photo of the skirted vanity table above - it's all about the lush and luxurious; the romantic and the aged; the grace that comes with both true love and decay.

The set: a seemingly dilapidated mansion, a more elaborate Grey Gardens, as it were had my mind whisked away to a place with overgrown gardens, stucco walls, and a glazed patina that only time can apply.

Something like this. Perfectly desolate, intimately structured, and unfortunately worn. Of course, this only exists in my imagination, but it will make the tour through the photos from the collection much easier to relate. Shall we work our way inside?

So what do you think? Gorgeous no doubt, but does it feel "Fall 2010" to you?

  2. What a beautiful post Artie. I like how you interpreted RL's fall collection with the decaying mansion photo. That vanity is so wonderful with the roses and crystal. Also, the centerpiece of roses on the dining table made me gasp. Such beauty... I love the vignette on the chinoiserie chest. That felt like fall to me.
    Anything RL does is perfection.

  3. I'm rather loving the muted neutrals right now, so this speaks to me. Interesting, since I've always been all about color

  4. As much as I love RL, I feel like it is a bit much; a little too ornate. I wonder if the average person can relate to much there. But then, RL is not targeted at the average person, no? Ha!

  5. Hello Artie~ ~What a great post. I'm being drawn to these neutrals and shades of cream. So unlike me as I love color. I could definately live in these rooms if I added a bold color, slightly muted, possible a rich muted shade of orange. Thanks for sharing.

  8. So very beautiful...who wouldn't want to live there? I could get lost in the romanticism that house exudes. Loving the softness of the colors too. I especially liked the mantel with the glass globes and white candles...simply beautiful! I am getting ready to do that same type look for my daughters wedding...less flowers, more glass globes and white candles...so far i have purchased over 100 globes..all shapes and sizes just like this mantel. Wish you lived closer Artie, I would put you in charge! :)

  9. Artie, love this post and it does feel like fall to me. Not because of the autumn colors but because of the texture the dimmed light the comfy look of each image. Very fall/winter to me. Loved the grouping of candles I am going to borrow that as inspiration for an upcoming post if that is alright with you. Love it!! Have a great weekend.
PS I did a post on fall this week. I am doing some fall touches on my porch. Kathysue

  13. romantic! I love the dressing table! And the old mansion -- there is something about inherited wealth where you keep things forever and ever that I just adore -- that bit of shabby but it was such a good piece to begin with and you just live with it -- the worn leather, the faded fabrics -- you can't just make that look -- it takes time to create!
