House 1: The Wright House (Adirondack Lux)
75 feet of ribbon and mostly artificial greens made up the primary dressing on the mantel, but I did manage to fit in pinecones, fresh boxwood, cedar, eucalyptus and magnolia leaves, along with all of those gorgeous gold and copper glittered magnolia and fern prawn picks.
No one lives in a cabin without a pair of binoculars (or two) for a quick view at the birds outside.
I purposely left the tree undecorated, and lit simply with white lights. I wanted your full attention to be paid to the mantel and to the rest of the room. The fresh scent of the fir was a beautiful addition to the ambiance.
Cloved oranges and paperwhites just about to bloom made for perfect accessories.
The telescoping wooden plate from The Inglenook Decor was absolutely perfect for my business cards. Everyone loved the many telescoping stands from Inglenook, and you will too! Head over before Christmas to enjoy her many discounted prices!
The knotty pine wall and original stone fireplace is what inspired my theme, but I didn't want it to be "lodge-y" alone, I really wanted a lux flair, so enter beautiful rugs, blue and white porcelains, and the tartan plaid.
With help from Allison (aka Margaret) and her kids, I had a whole bowl of cloved oranges, which offered an incredible scent to the room.
Simple cut stumps from a tree that came down near my office make great stools!
And the tartan screen was a HUGE hit! And how could it not be really? 7' tall and 6' wide! It's a statement for sure! Thanks to Scott and Allison for helping me put that together! It turned out beautifully!

So there you have it - house one. What do you think?
Well it is completely beautiful! Rustic and elegant all at the same time. Now that sled on the table I really like! The plaid are gorgeous and the one makes an fantastic tablecloth.

Thanks Sherry! I had a lot of fun putting all of this together, and I was absolutely thrilled with the final product! :) They are having a sale on Friday and Saturday of next week, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'll make some money from all the stuff I bought! LOL!
ReplyDeleteArtie..this is just so magazine worthy! Great NYS room for sure! Cozy, warm, reds and greens. Love the plaids too. It's kind of an updated look for a cabin and I'm lovin' it! Looks like it would be an awesome Adirondack hotel lobby. If it were, I'd be making reservations! Can't wait to see more!

Thank you Tami!! :) I am really proud of it, and the homeowner was really proud of it, too. House #2, which I'll share this week, is completely different! I can't wait to get the professional images of that house from the photographer! It came out great, too!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love the blue and white porcelains with the tartan plaid & rustic. Great idea...mmm, I may have to overhaul a room.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job. So glad I ran into your blog.
Artie, This room is fabulous! I love the screen you made and the mantle decorations are wonderful. This room is very rustic but elegant at the same time. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays,
Sherry
In two words 'Artie ben', ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!!

What do I think.. I could live in that room. I love the simplicity of the tree juxtaposed with the elaborateness of the mantel. I love the log in the room. How clever. I have one I think I'll bring in. I love the furniture, i love the tartan throw, I love it all. You are amazing.
ReplyDeleteHi Artie, I've been waiting for this and I'm so thrilled. My favorite elements aside from the gorgeous greens and ribbons on the mantel are the layered mirror -- unexpected and fantastic -- and the plaid screen -- an amazing backdrop. Congratulations on such a beautiful and liveable room!
ReplyDeleteArtie- It is gorgeous...warm, inviting, rustic but refined. Love the rug and the way you pulled all the plaids and colors together. Spectacular! Hugs-Diana
ReplyDeleteIt's incredible! Don't you love the natural smell -- I always do oranges but I leave the paperwhites until January!
ReplyDeleteI love the touches of blue and white!
Hey Melody!! I'm so glad you found the blog, too! I had a lot of fun with this tour of homes - keep checking in with me ... I have another house I'll be posting about this week!
ReplyDeleteSherry, that screen was the perfect backdrop, and pretty easy to make. Just 3 simple 24" doors (hollow core closet doors) which cost me $10/each!! Can you believe it?? Lining up the stripes was a little difficult - but well worth the time. I plan on taking that one and using it in our bedroom. :)
ReplyDeleteYAY BRENDA!!! I'm so glad you came by and that you loved it! :)
ReplyDeleteMarlis!!! I'm definitely in agreement. When I finished this space - it was hard to leave it. I'm changing our house in a BIG BIG way, so I wanted one last "lodgy" feeling space - and this is it! So much fun! I'm glad you came by, and that you loved it! Thank you for commenting!
ReplyDeleteOooo, and Marlis, leave that stump in the garage for a couple of weeks so it can "bleed" sap! Don't wanna mess up your rugs!
ReplyDeleteHey Carol! :) So glad to see you stop by! I left another comment about the screen. Pretty easy to make, and well worth the time! I plan on revamping this one and using it in our bedroom! Thanks so much for coming by, so glad you liked it.
ReplyDeleteDIANA!!! THANK YOU!!! :) I'm glad you liked it!
ReplyDeleteHey Martha!! Yes, love love love the smell of cloved oranges. The paperwhites weren't open yet - so missed that. Have you ever smelled satsuma from Body Shop? It's a burning oil you'll love if you love the smell of cloved oranges! Check it out - I burned it through the whole tour, and everyone was like: WHAT IS THAT AMAZING SMELL? ;)
ReplyDeleteOne word...phenomenal! Well done...the mantle looks AMAZING!! The room is very festive, warm, and cozy! Anyone would love to kick their feet up and take in the beauty and warmth of the room. ~Liz
ReplyDeleteOh Artie, I love every bit of this. Absolutely fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteI love it Artie! The room speaks to me, as I love anything rustic, adirondack, etc. The mantel is just gorgeous and I love all the little details. Fantastic job!

ReplyDeleteBeing busy is like Martha say - "It's a GOOD thing" and here - well it's just FABULOUS!!! LOVING the plaid throw and LAYERS of LOVE on the sofa... Festive festoons and garlands... and love the cozy feel of the little tree simply wrapped in burlap. You REALLY did an AMAZING job Artie capturing a rustic essence!
ReplyDeleteOUTSTANDING!
