Why that was a bad idea ...

Ok, so the sofa isn't happening. Here's why:

Terrible right? I can't decide if it's because the pattern of the Jamil fabric is too large; or if I just can't get far enough away from it in my room, but it just looks bad. This is exactly the reason I suggest to everyone that I work with that they should take a fabric out on approval and see it in the room before they spend the money!

Sorry folks ... onto my next hair-brained, but hopefully better idea.

  1. Fabric is so tricky. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Hugs, Marty

    1. Oh Marty, I think I'm just gonna leave that sofa as is. I even went and bought some pillows that I thought would work nicely, and they didn't. So they've gotta go back and I'm just going to pretend that it doesn't bother me.

  2. I think it would work great if you just used it on pillows and chose a smaller textural print for the rest of the couch. No?

    1. I think I just should probably not use that animal print at all Nilda, but I agree that it's a great fabric for pillows!

  3. Without a few poor choices, how would you know what fabulous looks like when you see it. You'll find the perfect piece and be thrilled when you do. Just remember to share THAT with us, too.♥♫

    1. Oh Marilyn ... I put it back to "normal" it's officially staying the way that it is. If I want to feel summer, I'll go outside! HA!

  4. I like the pillows idea from Nilda. That is, if you still love the fabric. Good luck and have fun :)

    1. Thanks, Loi. Pillows are great - you're right, but not going there. I don't know why I love it so much in other rooms ... this one just isn't right.

  5. I like your sofa in its current fabric. The color is part of why you fell in love with this sofa, as I recall, so why change it. Gone are the days where people changed out their decor for the season -- at least in my house. If you love it in the winter, you'll love it in the summer. After all, you spend a great deal of time in your garden and you have a lovely place to sit out there and enjoy the summer air.

  6. The sofa is beautiful.. What a lovely frame. I think if you were to go with the print, I would change up the accessory pieces to something with an empire feel. If you were to do the print, (which I think is quite fab!!) just toss on some really solid white pillows, and stitch on a square frame in say... brown-orange. I think it would look fantastic. Perhaps look for some raw wood chairs to work with it. I think the mixture of the rug, and the printed sofa, you just need some raw wood chairs in a basic white seat. You can make it work, and the sofa really would be very hot.

What are your inspirational photos? Maybe you could post some of the pictures that you love...

I remember you slip covered your furniture, which was stunning, and it was French if I recall...

If you do go with the sofa, just really toss on some brighter white pillows... The look is more Empire...

  7. Artie, so glad you chose not to forge ahead. The colors in the room are fabulous, if you want to lighten/summer it up, do it with some pillows! I had to do that too. But you know, seeing your human side makes me laugh. I've been toying with ditching the greens in our home, which I really love, for turquoise. And then I started budgeting.. and I went I don't think so!!! So I made some new pillows, green and white, rust and white and went with that. Life is back to good. Hugs.. xo marlis

  8. hi!! Me catching up on my reading! OMG... you slay me... step away from this room and march upstairs at once young man!!! I think it didn't work because you were trying to make the room/sofa feel more summery and the Jamil still "reads" winter. Might I suggest you try taking up the rug for summer and changing out the back pillow cushions (not the seat cushion) with something linen (or cotton)- solid/stripe/floral (subtle floral;) Worth a try and I would say wouldn't be too expensive, but somehow I'm thinking you will do something to make it expensive;);) xxoj.

  9. Sorry it didn't work out for you Artie, but the upside is you didn't spend a wad (ca-ching, ca-ching, ca-ching) on the Scalamandre silk cut fabric only to discover it didn't meet your expectations. Not even going to offer a suggestion as what you could do since I see you have plenty. ☺ Hugs, hugs -Brenda-

  11. Artie, I love your blog and have been thinking how much I liked the look of that animal print against the sofa. In Veranda last year there was a beautiful settee with one of those long skinny pillows in the middle and it was that animal print. It was stunning. I decided then that I like "Lions and Tigers and Bears" after all. No other pillows either, they would take away from the drama and punch.
    Well, it's just a suggestion.
