Progress Lighting

Quite possibly one of the biggest transformations in the barn, was the overall ambiance due to the change of lighting! You might remember that the barn had 4, 120 watt bare bulbs on ugly white porcelain fixtures when I first saw it. Needless to say, aesthetically and functionally - that was not going to work!

I searched high and low for fixtures that I thought would fit the rustic bones of the barn, and the elegant shapes and layers of the furniture and accessories. I really wanted a lantern, and if you've looked for lanterns online, you know already that there are tens of thousands. So, after a lot of searching ... I was happy to find the Piedmont Lantern from Progress Lighting.

The Piedmont is part of the Thomasville line of lighting products that Progress Lighting carries, and is a sophisticated little lantern with no glass! I needed to make sure that I was glass free with my lanterns for lots of reasons, but namely the glare and the fingerprints. I also wanted something that was vaguely architectural to help add a little refinery to that rough barn wood.

Finished in a Antique Bronze finish, the traditional/classic styling of the Piedmont was perfect for the barn, and would fit beautifully in just about any room. It's small, so it's not overwhelming to any space - but it's big enough that your room won't feel off balance. Almost 21" tall, the cord and chain make the Piedmont hangable in rooms with ceilings up to 20'. WOWZA!

And just look at how beautiful the Piedmont looked in the barn! Ideally, I would have liked to replace the existing fixtures with the lanterns, but the homeowner wanted me to hire an electrician to do that. Silly, I know - but it wasn't my barn, and I didn't want to pay someone to do something I could do in 10-minutes with no help - so, I opted to fasten a plug onto these beauties and have them plugged into an extension cord. Another option for those of you with no overhead lighting in your rooms!

My experience with Progress Lighting was amazing. They were quick, friendly, and super knowledgeable. The lanterns came quickly and were a breeze to install! The photos from the website were perfect representations of the product - which is unfortunately becoming less and less true. So, I knew I needed to blog about Progress Lighting so you'd all know where you can go to find great fixtures that are exactly what you ordered when they're delivered!

So, there you have it. If you're looking for lighting - large or small, expensive or inexpensive, give Progress Lighting a shot before you do too much digging! The service, product, and shipping were all top-notch, and I would gladly recommend the Piedmont to all of you if you're looking for a little lantern perfect for a hallway, bathroom, bedroom, small living or dining room - any room really. It's a great fixture, and I think it did wonders to change the overall appeal of the barn for the tour.
