Brass and Glass

I think I've always been a fan of tarnished brass - seriously. When I was young, probably 5 or 6, my grandmother would find her brass candlesticks in my toy chest. Each day she would remove them, putting them back where they had been, scattered among her house, and each day after I would go around collecting them up again, and storing them as if they were some sort of pirate booty. Now, it's important to understand that these were tarnished, unlacquered brass candlesticks from the 60s; they weren't treasured items, they were just things that for one reason or another my grandmother had collected over the years and had to hide from her grandson in the 80s! But I was in love with them. In fact, I still have 2 of them!

Anyway, fast forward to my adulthood, and I still have a love for tarnished, unlacquered brass. When I lived at CDLV, I had a mass of antique candlesticks and now at The Apartment I have moved on to collecting antique brass bells from India and Africa, and just made a purchase for the living room that I'm over the moon excited about. Inspired by Grant K. Gibson, and the photo above, I luckily stumbled upon some new tarnished brass pieces I can't wait to show you!

I'll be back with a progress report of what's going on in there as soon as the Cross Bottle Guy sale is over next week! Right now, the living room is packing central since the surface space at the studio is filled with boxes of old bottles we just found in Pennsylvania! Sit tight! It'll be worth it, I promise!

  2. Funny story about hoarding the brass candlesticks. I must say I also have a love for unlacquered brass. It really looks good among my furniture in the living room and I managed to get quite a few pieces recently at a yard sale. Looking forward to hearing about the progress made!
